China Youth Climate Action Network (CYCAN, registered as a Chinese NGO Guangzhou Yuexiu Climate Environmental Protection Exchange Center) is the first non-profit environmental organization in China to focus on empowering China’s youth to take actions and provide a platform for university students and young people to advocate for tackling climate change.
CYCAN has now engaged more than 500 Chinese universities and 100,000+ Chinese youth to take actions to combat and raise awareness about climate change and to carry these efforts into their future careers.
With the new strategetic goals, CYCAN will be focusing on the ”2030 Action Plan“ to motivate young people and the public to take immediate actions and make effective changes. CYCAN will target on three levels: 1) Campaign and advocacy, promoting youth understanding and active participation through building and maintaining a climate-focused youth network; 2) Youth empowerment, providing a platform for aspiring youth to grow and develop their skills and knowledge to contribute to green change; 3) Impact and change, applying personal action to formulating industry development for bigger change.

2019

In April 2019, CYCAN cooperated with the China Youth Leaders Foundation to carry out ten seminars on the theme of youth sustainable development, affecting seven provinces and ten colleges

In April 2019, CYCAN Strategic Reform Conference was held in Beijing, forming a new stage of strategic planning

In June 2019, the CYCAN Low Carbon Campus Project was transformed and improved, and was supported by the UNDP Global Environment Foundation Small Grants Program

In July 2019, IYSECC-Ⅺ: The 11th International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change was held in Shenzhen again, focusing on the intersections of climate change and other social issues, with the theme of “Climate Change PLUS”

In October 2019, CYCAN officially obtained UNFCCC qualification as an observer agency

In March 2018, CYCAN cooperated with China Merchants Shekou Holdings Co., Ltd to launch the "Future City" International Thesis Competition

In May 2018, CYCAN official service account "C Xiaomei" was launched.

In June 2018, CYCAN officially obtained tax exemption status for non-profit organizations in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City.

In July 2018, The 10th International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change: "Eco-City", "Eco-Life" and "Eco-Power" was held at Southern University of Science and Technology

In October 2018, the monthly donation was started with the aid of Shanghai United Foundation

Mr. CHEN Jiliang

Mr. Chen Jiliang is a researcher at Greenovation Hub, a Chinese environmental NGO. He holds a bachelor degree on Environmental Science and a master degree on Environmental Management. Mr.Chen has been working on environmental policy for 9 years and regularly participating in international environmental negotiations such as the UN climate talks and the Antarctic Treaty meetings.

Ms. FEI Xiaojing

Ms. Fei Xiaojing is the Co-founder and Managing Executive Director of Impact Hub Shanghai, and has more than 8 years working experiences on sustainability consultancy and policy advocacy area. Meanwhile, she is also a facilitator and innovation coach. Before starting Impact Hub Shanghai, Xiaojing started her career as a policy researcher in climate change in 2008 and contributed to grassroots climate movement building in China. After COP15 in 2009, she decided to focus more on sustainability solutions and worked in leading consultant companies to provide sustainability consultancy to corporates helping them to address their sustainability challenges. Now, Impact Hub Shanghai is connected to Global Impact Hub Network of 20000+ members around 80+ cities and 50+ countries.

Mr. Hu Jianxin is a professor-level senior engineer, an entrepreneurial mentor of “CM Space” incubator of China Merchants Group. He was also the former Chief Low Carbon Officer of China Merchants Shekou Holdings Co., Ltd and former Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Property Development Co., Ltd.

Mr. LI Li

Mr. Li Li now is the cofounder of MOLBASE.Inc. In 2017 and 2012, he was involved in the establishment of CYCAN.org and MOLBASE.com respectively. The former dedicated to promoting the participation of the Chinese youth in the response to climate change, and the latter is committed to accelerating the efficiency of research and development of global pharmaceutical chemicals. Mr. Li Li obtained Bachelor and Master degrees respectively from the Information Engineering University and PBC School of Finance of Tsinghua University.

Mr. Alvin LIN

Mr. Alvin Lin is the China Climate and Energy Policy Director in the Natural Resource Defense Council’s Beijing office, where he works on analysis and policy advocacy around China’s climate and clean energy policies. His work covers a broad range of issues, including the environmental and health impacts of coal consumption, energy efficiency and renewable energy, climate negotiations and international policy, the effects of HFCs, and air pollution regulation. He received his Bachelor's degree from Yale University, Master of Philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Doctor of Law from New York University. Prior to joining NRDC, he worked as a litigator and judicial clerk in New York.

Ms. LU Zhiyao

Ms. Lu Zhiyao has been working at SEE Foundation for more than three years. Dr. Lu is currently in charge of the Climate Change and Business Sustainability Programs, which includes the Green Supply Chain Action in Real Estate industry, Waste Management, and Pollution Prevention, and she is responsible for part of international cooperation and conferences of SEE as well. Ms. LU studied at Yale University and Minzu University of China for a joint-doctoral program, received a PhD in Ethnoecology. She studied at Columbia University and New York Botanical Garden as a visiting scholar and graduated from Ocean University of China with B.A. degrees in Marine Ecology. She spent years on research about the relationships between environment and ethnic minority groups in China. Zhiyao was selected as a Chinese Representative for Homeward Bound Project, which is a global female scientists leadership training and Antarctic expedition project. She has great passion and enthusiasm for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Ms. LIU Jing

Ms. Liu Jing went to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) for four consecutive years in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. In February 2015, she co-founded the political science academic media platform “Bisconia”, and formed a team to provide content analysis in texts and videos for international issues; the total visitors of the platform are distributed in more than 90 countries in six continents. In 2018, she founded “Oriental Foco Films” and art media platform “Ohitmoves”, and participated in the planning and operation of Feinaki Animation Week 2019 Beijing.

Mr. PENG Jila

Mr. Peng Jilai is a Partner at SynTao Co., Ltd., Director of China CSR Map (CCM), and Certified Trainer for Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). He has many years of experience in CSR consulting, serving many MNC clients of automobile, FMCG, healthcare, financing as well as ICT industries. He specializes in the formulation of sustainable development strategies, internal & external stakeholder communication, sustainability reporting training and writing, and planning, monitoring and evaluation of public welfare programs.

Ms. WANG Yiting

Ms. Wang Yiting has been working to catalyze Chinese overseas investment and trade in support of sustainable development. Over the years, she has worked with some leading and grassroots environmental and justice groups on four continents to strategize for technological and social innovation, and campaign for equitable and effective global governance. She has also conducted field research on rural energy in East Africa and India, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. She joined CYCAN as the international coordinator since 2009. She believes in building durable relationships across cultural and disciplinary boundaries to stimulate systemic solutions. Yiting graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a major in Environmental Studies with the highest honor, and earned her Master of Environmental Science from the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Mr. WEI Hanyang

Mr. Wei Hanyang attended UN Climate Conference of Copenhagen in 2009, and interned with the United Nations Environment Programme (Geneva Office) in 2011. In the same year, he represented CYCAN in the UNFCCC Bonn Conference and Taipei Asia Pacific Environmental NGO Conference. He specialized in environmental impact assessment and environmental consulting for multiple years, before dedicating to the clean energy transition and green finance sector. Previously he obtained the degrees of bachelor at the University of Hong Kong and the master at Columbia University.

Mr. ZHAN Yufeng

In 2010, Mr. Zhan Yufeng graduated from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology majoring in Public Art Design. He then joined CYCAN, and has successively held positions of Project Officer and Secretary General. He left the position in CYCAN officially at the end of 2015 and set up Shining Design Agency in August 2016. He is now engaged in brand design and CSR activities planning.

Mr. ZHAO Xiangyu

Mr. Zhao Xiangyu holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Amherst College. After graduating from high school, he co-founded "China’s Green Beat" (a founding organization of CYCAN). He then established CYCAN's International Branch, and initiated COP China Youth Delegation and IYSECC projects. Xiangyu also served as the Chairman of CYCAN's Board of Directors from 2014 to 2017. He now is the CEO and Chairman of Heilongjiang LT AGRO company.

She has participated in various types of public welfare projects and works in foundations, community organizations and international charitable organizations. After joining CYCAN in 2014, she participated in the management and implementation of the Low Carbon Campus Project, the International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change, and the COP-CYCAN China Youth Delegation Program, etc. In February 2017, she served as the Executive Director of the organization, responsible for institutional operations and development, coordinating the board to develop the institutional strategic plan; leading the agency executive team to develop the medium and long-term project work plan, and supporting the team to complete the work tasks; developing and responsible for the organization's fundraising, promoting activities design and execution. As an environmentalist, she believes in nature and is pushing forward good changes through local action.

Believe that public welfare is the reflection of the civilization development and will eventually promote it. Even though what I did and what I will do seem inappreciable in this long process, it still matters. After all, the journey itself is home.

Yunan graduated from the Department of Sociology, Nankai University in 2016, participated in iJoin social innovation consulting during his college years, paid close attention to the strategic transformation of NGOs, and conducted organizational change research during UC Berkeley exchange. Yunan joins the CYCAN team as Senior Program Officer, being mainly responsible for the Youth-CAIP Project, 2030 Carbon Neutral Campus Project and COP China Youth Delegation. He believes that more than ever our young people need become the change they want to see in our own future and the power to bend the curve on climate and bring shared prosperity for all rests on our hands.

Monthly Donation Disclosure
  • In October 2018, CYCAN launched the “Donate a Little Makes a Mickle” monthly donation project with the assitance of the Shanghai United Foundation. The original intention of the project was to raise non-restricted funds for the organization (that is, funds other than project implementation), and for institutional management and sustainable development issues, including but not limited to: annual implementation of board meeting, design and printing of annual reports, impact assessment reports, community operation and annual events, etc.
